Australian Ford Mustang MACH-E Select 2023: how much luggage and shopping fits in the boot and frunk?

If you’re wondering how much boot and frunk storage space the Australian Ford Mustang MACH-E Select (2023 base model) has, it’s listed as 402 litres (laden to cargo tray).

In comparison with EV’s I’ve driven recently, the smaller Hyundai Kona 2024 has 407 litres of boot space and similar size to Mach-E Hyundai Ioniq 5 2023 has 527 litres boot space.

While the Mustang Mach-E lacks boot space compared to similar size EVs it does have a very large frunk even bigger than a Tesla Model Y (more on that later).

The powered boot lid opens up to reveal enough space to easily fit some shopping, type 2 cable bag and my Rolser trolley.

All Aussie versions of the Ford Mustang MACH-E 2023 have a huge well designed Frunk with capacity of 134 litres that can easily fit a carry on luggage and two small backpacks.

Under the boot floor there is a big foam moulded part with a space for the tyre goo kit and a Ford Type 2 charging cable that is included with the car instead of a standard power socket 240V charging cable.

If you remove the foam and put a thin liner cloth there instead you could create extra space for small dry light items.

At the right and left of the boot there are cargo net hooks, with a 12V cigarette lighter socket at right.

I managed to fit in all my test luggage listed below and was still able to close the boot lid:

  • 2 x medium sized suitcases
  • 2 x carry on luggage
  • 2 x backpacks

I could have also easily fitted my 7m Type 2 to Type 2 cable in blue bag if it wasn’t in the Frunk already.
