Do Australian MG4’s have Continental or Bridgestone tyres?

At last week’s MG4 Australian media launch the car I sat in and took photos of most had Continental tyres.

However later I was shown Bridgestone tyres in a photo taken by someone test driving an MG4 at a Victorian MG dealer and looking closer at my photo of the orange media demo MG4 it had Bridgestone tyres.

So do Australian MG4’s have Continental or Bridgestone tyres?

I had a chat with David Giammetta (MG Motor Australia communications and public relations manager) and he explained that the answer to the tyre question is both. It depends on which specification of MG4 you buy.

The Excite 51 & 64 have:

  • 17″ wheel with low wind resistance-Trim Wheel Cap
  • Tyre – Continental Premium Contact C
  • Size: 215/50R17

While the Essence 64 & Long Range 77 have:

  • 18″ wheel with premium low wind resistance – Trim Wheel Cap
  • Tyre – Bridgestone Turanza
  • Size: 235/45R18

I would expect that the larger wider tyres on the Essence 64 & Long Range 77 would improve grip and handling but reduce range and efficiency.
