EDIT: 19 Sept 2023. This issue has been dealt with via a free dealer software update.
When MG Australia announced pricing for the MG4 electric hatchback in mid 2023, the specifications list sent to media including me listed one pedal driving as being a feature of all 4 versions of the car including the Excite 51 base model.
However within the last few days the MG4 specifications list on their website changed to exclude one pedal driving as a feature of the Excite 51.
Following up on a query by early MG4 Excite 51 buyer Scott, I asked a spokesperson for MG Australia whether one pedal driving had been removed from the car permanently?
MG Australia’s spokesperson replied with the comment below on the record:
“It’s currently being worked on. It will be available in a future update for 51 Excite. Formal details later from our product team.”
So MG4 Excite 51 buyers shouldn’t panic. Although the feature did disappear from the specifications list at short notice, it should be back.
EDIT 6 Sept 2023: owners getting delivery of their MG4 Excite 51 today are reporting that the software has been updated to include one pedal driving.
My unofficial guess is that a software updates will be applied to existing cars by MG dealers in late 2023/early 2024.
It also should be pointed out that any specifications list you see for a new electric car will have a disclaimer similar to the one below. Note the highlighted words in the disclaimer.
The only way to be 100% certain your car will have a specific feature is to buy a car ready for sale at a dealer where you can look for your preferred features and confirm them with your own eyes.
