The last stop of my 2012 American journey after Anchorage, Alaska was 24 hours in Santa Monica, California. My accomodation was the massive and well equipped Hostelling International Santa Monica building.
Not only is HI Santa Monica quite affordable but it has also has a great location, only a few minutes walk from the beach, pier, main shopping areas and farmers markets.
Selected Santa Monica photo highlights are explained as a travel diary / journal below.
If you’re visiting on a Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday visit the Santa Monica Farmers Market and try some of the fresh fruit and other foods for sale.
Santa Monica Pier offers different kinds of entertainment or you can simply walk along it and look at the Ferris Wheel go round.
The beach and promenade offers something for everyone: whether it’s lying down on the sand with your partner or watching birds fly overhead.
Keeping fit is a full time job in Santa Monica – whether it’s going for a run, cycling, skate boarding or roller blading.
Locals and tourists alike who like shopping and being fashionable can be found walking along Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade.
If you’re hungry for a main meal I suggest the Chipotle Mexican Grill on 1218 3rd Street, however if it’s dessert you’re after the place to go is Cafe Crepe on 1460 3rd Street Promenade.
