If you’re on holiday in New York and have a few days spare it’s definitely worth hopping on an Amtrak train to visit Washington DC, the nations capital and home to many of the world’s highest quality free entry museums.
As you would expect for a nations capital there are many significant monuments and memorials including the Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial and Washington Monument.
While in DC we stopped by at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum.
We also spent several hours exploring the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
If you visit the world’s largest library, the Library of Congress, you can see originals of some famous bibles, examine old maps and see many other interesting exhibitions.
The Supreme Court of the United States is also nearby.
Since we’re interested in the media we visited the Newseum interactive museum of news and journalism, unfortunately the Newseum is in a troubled financial state and will shut down at the end of 2019.
If you like American Art, drop in to The Smithsonian American Art Museum.
If you’re interested in art, history and museums you could easily spend two weeks or more on holiday in Washington DC.
