Yorick Mark from respected Brisbane solar/battery installer MC Electrical showed me something at Smart Energy Sydney 2026 that caught my attention straight away.
Solax has a new AC bi-directional EV charger coming to market soon, it could be a much cheaper path to using your car as a home battery.
The idea is simple.
If your EV has V2L like a Kia, Hyundai or BYD, you plug it into this charger.
The charger talks to your car, figures out how much power it can safely send using V2L and routes that energy into your home through a Solax inverter. Your car warranty stays intact because the system follows the V2L limits set by the car maker. Not the other way around.
More EVs have V2L now than people realise. The MG4, Kia EV3, the new Tesla Model Y L Premium All-Wheel Drive. Even the Toyota BZ4X. The list is growing fast.
The part that really got me was the price.
Dedicated DC bi-directional chargers can cost six, seven, eight thousand dollars once you include installation. This sits in a different bracket entirely. It is not a cheap basic charger, but it is nowhere near that number either. Solax won’t say yet but my guess is pricing around $3000-$4000 installed.
If you already have a compatible Solax inverter with two battery ports, you could add this and have a working vehicle-to-home battery power setup. No separate expensive hardware. No warranty headaches.
