My dad has had his Anker SOLIX X1 AC coupled home battery system (6kW Inverter and 25kWh battery) for 101 days. He’s been on the Globird Zero Hero electricity plan for 38 of them. In this video, I walk through exactly how it all works. Honestly it’s simpler than most people expect.
The short version: solar charges the battery during the morning.
Then from 11am to 2pm, Globird gives him free grid electricity.
He runs the dishwasher, the dryer, the microwave, the kettle. He charges his EV. That free window adds over 20 percent to his Kia EV3’s battery, which works out to roughly 100 kilometres of highway driving. Every single day. For free.
There’s more to it than just the free hours. The plan has a bonus for keeping off the grid between 6 and 8pm. Dad has hit that bonus all 38 days. He’s also exporting stored battery power back to the grid during that window for extra money. In winter, he’ll need to rethink that part. We talk through why.
The bigger question is whether Globird is actually right for you, or whether something like Amber Electric makes more sense. Dad and I land on different answers. You might too.
