Early January 2013: my friend Holly Hart convinced me to try snorkelling (full photo gallery) so I bought a wetsuit and I discovered that taking photos of underwater creatures was lots of fun 🙂
April: I visited Adelaide to research a story and made sure I had some spare time to take street art photos (full photo gallery) with my friend Chris Oaten.
May: I enjoyed a day trip with my friend Nate Cochrane to the Wings Over Illawarra airshow (full photo gallery). We had lots of fun and my photo of Royal Australian Navy Eurocopter AS350 Ecureuil (Squirrel) synchronised flying was featured on ABC News Online.
Later in May I walked around Sydney city taking photos of the Vivid Sydney winter light show (full photo gallery). My photo of a child fascinated by the Night Blossoms on Pyrmont Bridge was featured on ABC News Online.
June: I spent a week on holiday with my friend Chris Watson at Charlottes Pass Village, the highest altitude ski resort in Australia. It was a welcome escape from “civilisation” to spend a week reading, playing cards and staring out the window as clouds passed over the mountain range.
July: I began a full time job working at the University of New South Wales as Engineering IT Officer & Faculty Photographer. The photo below is one I took of eVe the UNSW SunSwift team World Solar Challenge race car.
Later in July I took photos at a Sydney Roller Derby match (full photo gallery). It’s a super tough sport but they still manage to have fun 🙂 It’s also quite difficult to photograph due to fast player movement and low light.
August and September: I visited the USA for a month long holiday including: the twin Kansas Cities, San Diego, San Francisco and experiencing the arid desolate beauty of National Parks in the South West region. It was everything I had expected and more.
I have blogged about these already:
Postcards from America: 2013 Desert Journey part 1, part 2 and part 3.
In Late September I went for a random street art photo walk (full photo gallery) with my friend Alison Martin around the inner west Sydney suburb of Newtown.
October: bushfires were widespread across Sydney and NSW, enough to make the moon look orange due to smoke particles.
December: I took quite a few photos during the 2013 Sydney Summer and Christmas Season (full photo gallery) including the Darling Harbour Christmas Tree which was unexpectedly licenced by Intel Australia for use in a press release.
