Once pre-selected, how much time do you need to dedicate to the campaign. (Part time or Full time) As mentioned advertising and promotion is expensive, is the campaign to be self funded or does a major party pick up the tab?.

EDITOR: As much time as you can spare part-time and if you think you can win then full time. Independents are self/family/friends funded. Political Party candidates usually get funding from their party.

Hi mate. good info. Just wondering how do you get to the point where you are in a position to be nominated by a major political party?? What do you have to do?? How do you join them to one day become a potential candidate in local government elections or maybe one day state elections??

Is it just joining via the standard membership found on their websites??

I would appreciate your answer.

Regards,
Norm

EDITOR: You have to a member of the party you want to represent, and be supported by the majority of members in your area.

That sounds like a long, arduous process. But if you stop and think about it, your post is also an example of what journalism used to be. Political power is a world of its own, that most people don't have any kind of real / direct access to. Before the news all sold out, there was a tradition of real people finding out about important goings on, and telling their community what they learned. Even half a world away, it's refreshing to know that someone still cares about reality "behind the curtain."

To run a small campaign with some pamphlets must be really difficult.

EDITOR: Yes, you're right but as a member of a relatively small party (The Greens) we don't have the huge amounts of $$$ to spend on election advertising and promotional material
