{{lls}} Channel 10 has signed an exclusive five-year deal to broadcast the Indian Premier League (IPL) which consists of eight teams
competing in action-packed Twenty20 matches
This is great news because most cricket fans had assumed they wouldn’t be able to watch IPL matches because the rights would be bought by pay TV operator Foxtel. The deal also includes exclusive replay rights and selected matches will be repeated on TEN-HD the next day.
Ch10 will exclusively broadcast all 59 matches over 44 days from 18 April – 1 June 08. Start times will vary with matches on TV anywhere between 8:30pm and 1.30am AEST often at different times between Ten SD and ten HD channels.
{{foxtel}}
Australian legends Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath and current stars Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Michael Clarke and Brett Lee have all signed up along with international stars including India’s Sachin Tendulkar, South Africa’s Jacques Kallis, Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralidaran, Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar, West Indian Chris Gayle, New Zealander Stephen Fleming, and many other stars.
Which team are you following and what does everyone think of the IPL matches so far?
My thoughts:
- The ground boundaries are so close a 10 year old could easily hit 6’s and 4’s
- Many of the big name players like Gilchrist haven’t earned their huge pay packets yet …
- the commentary is overboard
- the idea of American cheerleader girls on the sidelines is stupid and incongruous, these aren’t NFL games!
On announcing the news CH10 general manager of sport David White said “It is the biggest new cricket competition and the most revolutionary thing that’s happened in world cricket since Kerry Packer started the World Series in the mid-70s” and I have to agree with him
I’m not old enough to have watched Packers World Series cricket but people who did watch it tell me it was something special. Is this a turning point for the better or in the words of a commenter #83 on this article:
The IPL is a joke – manufactured teams playing manufactured cricket. It’s pure entertainment, not sport, and as such lacks the real passion that characterises top-level sport. Take away the hype and what are you really left with. Cricket is cricket because it is different – it takes up to 5 days (for a Test match), you can have no result, even after 5 days, and weather and ground conditions can radically alter the game (or even ruin the chance of a result).
T20 changes cricket to look much like other sports, only not as good. All subtly has been taken out of the game. In less than a month’s time virtually nobody will be able to remeber a single IPL game. T20 would have had a reasonable future as a novelty, attracting fans who were unlikely to go to first class or one-day matches, but I fear the overexposure of T20 through the IPL will kill the goose that laid the golden egg, so to speak.
We’ll see how IPL & ICL effect ODI and Test cricket during the next few years but already some players whose countries don’t pay them much have retired early from international cricket to play ICL and IPL which is a bad sign of things to come.
My coverage of the 2007 ICC One day cricket World Cup and 20/20 Championships was very popular attracting 235 comments and 10’s of 1000’s of visitors – I will cover the IPL in just as much detail
Breaking News about the IPL will be added in the comments section below as soon as I hear about it
Great info! I am signing up for the USA Dish package ($100!). At least you get it free.
Should be lots of fun to watch these games. Have they decided which player are playing in which team. I have heard most of the teams are being bought by celebrities (like Shah Rukh Khan) or billionare indian industrialists.
Watching in HD will be extra nice as well.
Hey thats great news aye. so does this mean that the ipl will be on every year on channel 10 for the next 5 years? so like 59 games a year. So in 2009 will the ipl be on channel 10 as well? Also will more than one match be played on at the same time.
I have given up watching cricket as we (England) have just been murdered again by New Zealand to go 2-0 in the series (best of 5) so no chance there
It’s good to see the IPL on free to air TV, but worry that it is 10 that has the rights. What’s going to happen when Big Brother Uplate screens? I think that by the time 10 shows the first ball being bowled, the games will in fact have already finished.
Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Matt Hayden and Andrew Symonds are among 13 Australian players who will feature in tomorrow’s IPL auction in India after Cricket Australia confirmed the players signed a long-form agreement with the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Teams will also be able to bid for Michael and David Hussey, Nathan Bracken, Simon Katich, Cameron White as well as retired international greats Shane Warne, Glen McGrath and Justin Langer
Michael Clarke, Jason Gillespie, Brad Haddin and Mitchell Johnson have opted out of playing in the IPL
hey. yeah the games best not be on Hd as it is unfair to people who do not have Hd at teh moment. also do u have teh schedule of games yet? also big brothe best not get in the aye cricket domainte over big borther.
also tell us which players form aus team are goign to which team in teh ipl cheers
Player Auction results so far in $US dollars
Bidding started at about 1730 AEST 20/02/2008 and went for about 8 hours!
Some of the results are pretty illogical, eg: Michael Hussey, Hayden, Warne, Mcgrath were all bought for bargain prices and some Indian players were bought for far more than their skills justify

jayawardene 1.8 crore RS. Its not live on any of the channels, not even indian channels
the ipl will be great! can’t wait for it to start. thank god it’s on ten and we don’t have to put up with tony greig. how does m.jayawardene fetch more than warne? and 1.5 million for dhoni? he is the most over-rated batsmen in world cricket. haddin is a better batsmen. it will be great to see how the teams finish up.
PS in reference to dhoni, i meant to say keeper/batsmen.
Hi guys anybody any clue these bid prices shown here are for 3 years contract or one year cos i have read both contract periods on times website and on cricinfo
The bid starts with the annual “base player fee” that has already been fixed by the IPL. This base player fee assumes that the player is available for the entire tournament. This fee will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis, depending on the players’ availability.
The minimum “percentage availability” for any player included in the auction will be 25 per cent.
Each team can only have up to a maximum of two centrally-contracted Australian players in its squad and/or up to a maximum of two Australian players from each state association.
Players are expected to earn close to US$1 million for a three-year contract. It’s an entire cricket economy out there. From Cricinfo.com
Chennai is in trouble having spent 4.7 million out of 5 million on 8 players alone they still have to sign up another 6 players
which channel broadcasting Indian Premier League (IPL)in USA?
if youi live in the uk and have a satelite dish, try scanning your skybox for german channels as they often have most sport us brits pay for for free, if not google it and they will tell you the correct angle to move dish to.
@RICHO -Tony Grieg is good, he is a great fan of all the subcontinent teams, which is why you would not be liking him. I am glad that the likes of pathetic commentators like Ian Healy & Mark Taylor would not be there on the Channel 10’s coverage. They only would like Australian players to do well in any conditions. They would never appreciate any other player’s calibre. As far as wk/batsmen is considered Gilly is really good and the next best is Dhoni. Haddin doesnt even know to keep properly leave alone batting. He would be good at domestic level, but you need to be at your best at international level.
Good to see that Ten would be covering the matches live. I would be waiting to watch all of them.
where are all the pommies for this tournament???
I cant wait to watch it but its a shame that england players are not playing. They think their county crciket is better than IPL. But they dont have good players except flintoff and peiterson anyway (thats a plaus). But those players who dont want to play in IPL will play next year considering the $$$ and the interest from fans.
what about michael clark? what did he go for?
Thanks so much channel ten i was worried no free to air station was going to broadcast the IPL.
Should be great cant wait
Im going for mumbai and so should everyone else
Hi, I am here to express my concern for the cricketing future. I personally feel that T20 form of cricket will lead players out of interest in the forms of ODI and tests, this IPL will now take over and the players will only be in it for the money. Cricket should be about representing your state/country and not veer into a selfish career, where your chasing money and not self improvement. This takes away all meaning of ODI and Test Match cricket.
I do feel that T20 should be a way of fundraising for supporting the developing countries in terms of bettering cricket competitions. Also it wouldn’t hurt for some of the funds to go into other charity sort of fundraisers.
Hi I’m Mitch and I’d like to express my opinion on Adam Ghilchrist. First off I would like to know what is the ruling on the use of the Squash Ball. Because evidence suggests that it enhances the batsmans performance… Especially Gilly’s. He has hardly made any runs throughout the recent series up until the WACA where he used the squash ball. If DHONI’S gloves were deemed Illegal then shouldn’t the use of the squash ball be deemed illegal. Also i feel it shows what sort of a person Adam Ghilchrist is because he knew it sparked anger in the Sri Lankan’s eyes when he used it to cheat his way to 100 in the recent World Cup and then he uses it at the WACA against only Sri Lanka. I think it was a method to say “in your face” and try and put them off their game. I feel he isn’t a genuine person that they say he is.
Are IPL payments excessive? I don’t think so. Here are some economic calculations done all in $. Compare a well above average earning of $1000 per month of a salaried employee (about 40,000Rs per month in India). At 6% interest and an employment period of 30 years the present value of the money he/she gets is about 170,000$. (Future earnings have less value today..).
A state level cricketer is supposed to have a base price of about $50000 (not sure per year or per three years so I will show calculations for both). To get basically the same earning as a salaried employee how many years should he hold the same level of contract?
For 50000$ for three years, he needs to have the contract for about 15 years! I doubt one can maintain that long a contract for most of these players! If 50000$ for one year, he needs the contract for 4 years. (At the moment BCCI is suggesting to most of these young players only one year contract!).
The above calculations do not consider the risk premium that a sports man would face which is way above a salaried employee (as injury and severe competition is more severe for a sports man than say, a good employee).
So my guess is that except for a few most are not earning too much!
Vij, you are obviously Indian and think somehow with your twisted logic i am having a dig at Indians by saying i dislike Tony Grieg. This is not the case, a lot of my favourite players in world criket are Indian (Tendulkar, Kumble for example). I just think Tony Greig is a moron and some of his commentary is bias rubbish, it has nothing to do with a dislike of subcontinent teams. In regards to your opinion of Haddin, you obviously haven’t watched much of him play, the standard of Aussie first class cricket is very high, he’ll prove me right when he takes over from Gilly. I think Sangakarra is a better keeper/batsmen than Dhoni, maybe even Boucher. If Dhoni can produce consistent BATTING performances over the next few years i might change my mind.
Hi I’m Jeremy,
First up It was a bit harsh of ‘Mitch’ to accuse Adam Gilchrist of cheating. Obviously it is not cheating. Dhoni’s gloves were illegal because they were too big. Gilchrist is doing nothing wrong because you could bat with a squash ball in your helmet and thats not cheating, if you get what I mean. But no more negatives from me! I would like to say that how happy I am to have Ten broadcasting the IPl. Good Luck to them. Does anyone know who the commentators are? And also is the reason why Dave Hussey got $225,000 more than Ponting is international dutie.
Thank You.
1. Ten head of sport David White has said the network would not employ its own commentators for the first season, instead taking the feed from host broadcaster TWI with yet unnamed recognised international commentators
2. David Hussey probably got more $$ because he’ll be available for all the games and Ponting will probably miss out on lots of games due to playing for Australia
I would like to express my comments of the quality of the Hyderabad team so far. I reckon they will be the unstoppable force. But I hope all us Indians soon recognise that it was Harbhajan’s fault not Andrew Symonds, if this doesn’t happen who knows how much more havoc will be caused. Do you all agree?
The IPL has been a lightning-conductor for controversy and bitter dispute but Adam Gilchrist believes it has a peacemaking role to play. The club structure includes players from different countries in the same team and Gilchrist feels that could ease tensions between players who are currently at loggerheads.
“[the IPL] is going to be an opportunity for players around the world to get to meet, know and understand opposition cultures and customs,” Gilchrist told the Sunday Telegraph in Sydney. “I think that’s going to be a very positive off-shoot of the IPL. Any world XI team I’ve ever played in there’s always been a great camaraderie in the rooms.”
Meanhwile Ian Chappell has questioned whether Channel 10 paid too much for IPL broadcast rights:
“That leads me [Ian Chappell] to the decision Australia’s Channel 10 made to splurge about $15 million for the rights to five years coverage of IPL. Will this turn out to be a coup or a cock-up? Australia is a delineated society when it comes to sport. There are very distinct cricket and football seasons and the IPL will be encroaching on the winter game. Australians will stay up late to watch an Ashes series in the middle of winter but the IPL tournament will be a serious test of whether the country has fully embraced the idea of being part of a global sporting village.”
– Source: The privileged and the damned: The IPL is making the BCCI pots of money. But what are the rest of the cricket-playing countries getting out of it?
any new info?
on channel 10 amd how they plan to broadcast all these games. this must mean they are sacrificing their original shows to show ipl
FYI This information was partly supplied by readers of this blog Ruw and Jimmy, thanks guys 🙂

awesome i love channel 10 now
how come channel 10 havent said anything abt this
i mean, on the australian share markets website, it outlines what channel 10 will be showing this year, under company announcements
it doesnt have anything abt IPL and if ten are gonna show it
is channel 10 gonna sell to foxtel for extra money? :S
while under the company announcements it has that channel 10 bought coverage for the commonwealth games in 2010
thats the website im referring to.
hey do u know how much Luke Ronchi was brought for in the ipl? i rate him a good hard hitting wa batsman.
What about New Zealand? can we expect any ipl coverage here?
I think it is a grest concept for the game of cricket we all love. It allows a family, or individual, to watch an exciting fast moving game in three (3) hours, just as you would going to the movies or other form of entainment or sporting event. However, I hope it does not encroach our current 50 over game or especially Test Matches.
Blackbeard.

However, I hope it does not encroach our current 50 over game or especially Test Matches.
Blackbeard.
CH 10 has released scheduling for the first 3 IPL matches:
#1: Live 11:30pm Friday April 18 on TEN SD – only last 1/2 hr shown on TEN HD
#2: Live 7:30pm Saturday April 19 on TEN HD – delayed to 11pm on TEN SD
#3: Live 12:30am Sunday April 20 on TEN HD – delayed to 2am on TEN SD
It looks like this mixed up scheduling will continue for all matches, could be quite confusing to keep track of and also annoying for people who only have SD Set top boxes as it looks like lots of matches will shown delayed on TEN SD due to clashes with other programs and sports like AFL
^^
THANKS SO MUCH!
Where did you find this info?? Link please!! 😀 😀 😀
Cheers
hey how about the second game on saturday. There are suppose to be 2 games scheduled for saturday. are they showing both? There suppose to cause they said every game they will be showing. also i find thsi a bit unfair as people liek me have a sd set top box. In order for me to watch ten hd i would have to upgrade to a new tv(plasma or lcd)this would cost an extra $2000. but still glad tehy are on free to air tv. also do You know teh broadcast schedule for perth.cheers
sorry
didnt read it properly, their are showing both games its just that i live in perth so forgot to convert times. when will u be able to get the schedule for the rest of the games
hey thanks for the information. Yeah i have a sony widescreen tv. not a plasma or lcd. I have a normal sd set top bx which has the ten hd channel. When i tried to watch it the sound works except there is no picture on the screen. So i was thinking if i got a proper hd set top box i may be able to get a picture. thats what i really want to do. hope it works. cheers , cause i would like to watch these games live.
how come nothings on the ten website?
for perth time i was wondering would it be live. so on friday night would it be 9:30- pm perth time instead of 11:30 pm. cheers. also im am getting a hd set top box.
Don’t call channel 10 for times, it goes to an outsourced call center (the one I work at) and we go by their website which you can all access anyway.
To put it into context, if you call channel Ten you might get me on the other end of the line, and I’ve only just found out the starting times from this blog.
Channel 10 has nothing mentioning/ confirming on their website.
Fox is televising the games live.
Sorry for being a spoil-sport but let’s be practical, who STILL thinks that channel 10 is going to televise the games live in Australia??????
As a “working class” aussie, I am EXTREMELY disappointed in not being able to watch the “history in the making” first ever IPL series matches.
It is a shame and disgrace to FTA providers in Australia.
🙁
I had my first encounter with Channel Ten’s website this week, whilst trying to find IPL broadcast times. My god, what an abomination, with undoubtedly the worst forum management I’ve ever seen – no evidence of moderators and none of the “ask a question” forums ever get responses from 10. Sabmac, I feel sorry for you if you are expected to use that as an information source to answer customers.
Looking at how 10 has treated Formula One fans – reneged on their advertised claim of live broadcasts after one race – doesn’t give me much hope of watching IPL live, especially living in Perth.
Neerav, great work on getting schedule times for the first 3 games anyway.
Hey, so do you hav the final list of players and their teams after the second auction coz i am really confused about why some teams have spent barely any of their money
thanx
All people who want to know exact times for both Ten SD and Ten HD should get the hands on a copy of the most recent Inside Cricket magazine as it has a detailed schedule for all Australian time zones
hope you all enjoy it, i know i will be
Jimmy
yeah i just cheCKED out the latest tv guide for perth and they are showing the matches delayed. none of theM will be live. fOR example on friday they could show they match live at 9:30pm instead they are showing it at 11:40. This is not good enough and unfair for perth viewers.
umm anyone know how much a hd box costs and also
cheers for the times
hi every1!
the tv guide has released the times of some matches next week!
friday 18th – 1140-240 bangalore vs Kolkata
saturday 19th – 730-1030 Kings punjab vs Chennai
sunday 20th – 940-1240 kolkata vs deccan
enjoi!
What about country WA where we dont get channel ten, If it was on foxtel it wouldnt be delayed either.
if anyone wants the latest team lineup….the best place i found was wikipedia….the official IPL website is crap. And i read somewhere tat some of the matches are goin to be shown on “normal TEN” and not “TEN HD” is tat true…
Does anyone know whether Channel 10 will be broadcasting the Australian tour to the West Indies this year?
I found a rumour on the net.
Thanks!!!
I dont understand the Saturday 7:30pm game on channel 10. This start time does not match the scheduled time of the actual game being played in India. This game is supposed to start at 5pm in India (according to cricinfo entire IPL schedule) which is 9:30pm EST Australia.
I have found times for TASMANIAN viewers.
It will all be broadcast on Digital Only Channel TDT
Saturday 19 April
12:15am Bangalore v Kolkata
7:30pm Mohali v Chennai
Sunday 20 April
1:00am Delhi v Rajasthan
9:40pm Mumbai v Bangalore
Monday 21 April
12:40am Kolkata v Hyderabad
Tuesday 22 April
12:15am Rajasthan v Mohali
Wednesday 23 April
12:15am Hyderabad v Delhi
Thursday 24 April
12:15am Chennai v Mumbai
Next Sunday’s (April 20) broadcast times are:
TEN at 9.40pm and 12.40am;
TEN HD at 8.30pm and 12.30am.
Also, the broadcast times on weeknights from next Monday are 12.10am (it will follow THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN).
NOT 11.15pm as stated in comment 64.
The ch10 tv times listed in post 64 don’t match up with the ch10 tv guide…does anyone have a list of the correct ch10 viewing times for qld?
Thanks.
I would just like to say that from the comments about Adam Gilchrist at the beginning of the page I get the impression that you think he is a “cheater” and an annoying character. I train with him and he coaches me quite often and I am happy to share with you that he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He is extremely kind and isnt full of himself at all. You would think that Australia’s best wicketkeeer batsmen would be full of himself but he is so interested in other people beside himself. Anyway I hope all of you understand that you can’t judge someone from what the media says. You also can’t judge someone if you dont even know them.
Id like to back up the comment made by katie. Gilly has done so much for so many ppl. Its discraceful to hear some ppl can be influenced so easily by the media. It makes me sick!
Mitch’s comment that was made comment 22 is pathetic. As if using a squash ball is cheating and you blame Gilly. He plays the game in the best spirit out of all the cricketers. If you think Gilly is a bad sportsman and cheat i will fix you up.
G”DAy,
Can some people help me out with the TDT schedule for Tasmania for the IPL. It is just so confusing. I find information then it is wrong and then i find more info and its wrong again. Please help. Thanks in advance!
Also, how come some of the stars didn’t play like Ross Taylor,Steyn and Misbah for Bangalore and Kohli did and Joshi!
Hi Suresh,
It is 8:16pm in Launceston, Tasmania and there is no IPL either on TDT HD or TDT SD!!
They are showing bloody Stuart Little or some crap!
V. disappointed TDT!!
Arnit.
I’m from Forster in Northern NSW, and Channel 10 is not showing any of the Kings XI vs Chennai match until 1:00am, even though it starts in less than 20 minutes time.
Very disappointed with Channel 10. It seems that they have shunted the tournament to the latest time slots possible, so as to protect their original programming. I was hoping to watch both IPL matches tonight, but it now looks like I won’t be seeing either.
Is there anywhere in Australia that Channel 10 is showing the matches live?
Ugh, Channel 10 completely butchered their programming, and/or the IPL made a pretty late change to the schedule – the game that was supposed to start at 7.30 has been bumped to 9.30 on Ten HD (which is live – there was no game to start at 7.30 EST) – no SD coverage at all! Barely any mention on Ten’s web site either. I was really looking forward to it, way to go Ten, you’ve made a mess of things after only one match! Instead we get 40 days and 40 nights, woo…. hoo…… ugh.
Hey Luke from Comment #74, refer to my earlier post, comment #62.
I worked this out a few days back.
The game was always going to be on at 9:30pm. Channel 10 are just lacking in knowledge as to how to work out global time zones.
Nareev, are you sure that the 9.30pm telecast in Sydney was live? My information (Cricinfo) had the start time at 9.30 GMT, which at this time of year is 5.30pm here in Perth and 7.30pm in Sydney
Here are the TAS times for the next few days according to YahooTV and confirmed at YourTV.
It appears unlike other centres that HD and SD are shown simultaeniously. If anyone has different info I would appreciate!
Also, I am recording the rest of the games on my laptop (.mpg files, playable on DVD players), but missed parts of the first few, so if anyone wantas to set up a game trading DVD mailing ring I would be interested!
TUESDAY 22 April
0:15am – 3:15am Rajasthan v Mohali
WEDNESDAY 23 April
0:15am – 3:15am Hyderabad v Delhi
THURSDAY 24 April
0:15am – 3:15am Chennai v Mumbai
FRIDAY 25 April
0:15am – 3:15am Hyderabad v Jaipur
SATURDAY 26 April
1:00am – 3:55am Mohali v Mumbai
7:30pm – 10:30pm Bangalore v Jaipur
What does everyone think of the IPL matches so far?
My thoughts:
* the ground boundaries are so close a 10 year old could easily hit 6’s and 4’s
* Gilly and Symonds haven’t earned their huge pay packets yet …
* the commentary is overboard
* the idea of American cheerleader girls on the sidelines is stupid and incongruous, these aren’t NFL games!
lol yeah i would have to agree with you the commentary is overboard. Also the boundries do seem small. Symonds needs to earn his money!
It not just Symonds that needs to earn his money. What about Dohni!
Hey. I would like to express my feelings towards short boundaries. Out of all the money they will be making i would like to think that this time next year the boundaries would be bigger in size. The reason for my outrage on the short boundaries is that you dont see the results of a good hit.
Practically a top edge will go to the boundary for six and then the maximum 6’s challenge becomes Illegitimate and tainted. Yusuf Pathan hits a 118m 6 and it doesnt matter much because non hard hitters like Michael Hussey benefit. Even Alistair Cook could hit multiple sixes on these boundaries.
Long Story short sixes should be a reward, not a given.
Did anyone see the match last night, it was amazing!!!! That was the purpose of the IPL. CAn’t wait to others like that.
Harbhajan should be banned from international cricket! His actions towards sreesanth was unacceptable, but it is nice to see the IPL is heating up!
It is a pity the Australian players are leaving! The australians have mixed well the international players and domestic players, as the concept of racism is decreasing as every match of the IPL progresses.
Can someone tell me why some of the stars are not playing for eg. in DEccan Herschelles Gibbs, Nuwan Zoysa. And they were just a couple from one side. It is very puzzling. But(just a thought) is their a restriction on playing international stars?
I thought I saw Herschelle Gibbs in the DeccanChargers dugout.
Can anyone tell me what Harbharjan exactly did? I missed everything after Pollocks wicket. The IPL website has little info and links that go no where.
hey i hope channel 10 replay gilchrist innings, cause it was on so late.
@ Suresh: Each team in the IPL is allowed only four international players in the playing team. So for the Deccan Chargers for example, they have been playing Gilly, Symo, Afrida and Vaas. Now that Symonds is leaving for the West Indies to play in the test series, they can choose from Styris, Zoysa, Silva or Gibbs to take his spot.
Oh, and I’ve definitely seen Gibbs in the dugout too. He arrived in India a week ago, and as far as I’m aware, he’s expected to be selected to take Symond’s spot.
Harbajan Singh should be banned From any form of cricket as he is not there to play cricket but start everyone. Just because he was captaining the side of Mumbai as Sachin Tedulkar wasnt playing, and he lost the game, losing his chance to show his great captaining, he BASHEs SrEesanth his fellow indian Cricketer. How low is that. First he starts Andrew Symonds now his own teammate. NOOB
THanks Robbi for the info.
I am very glad that Harbajan got the rest of the IPL Season and $500,000 suspension and fine. He deserves it. Hopefully that incredibly high fine will straighten him out. I am very glad that the BCCI made such a hefty price for his actions. And I can wait to see ‘THe Little Master’ to make his IPL debut.
What disappoints me about IPL is that some of the players got paid a truckload of cash and hasn’t even performed at their best or have not even played due to some injury or left. Shouldn’t they be paid per match played otherwise we might see some of them pocketing money for nothing.
BTW Warne has been the best bargain and deserves more compared to other players.
What do youse think?
I reckon that the Bangalore Royal Challengers were ripped off buying Jacques Kallis for $900,000! He is a brilliant test player and one-day but Twenty/20 does not defintely suit him. Yes he did bowl well this morning but like Rahul Darvid T20 is not the style of cricket!
Wow, the IPL has turned out waaaay better than I expected. It’s been amazing and the most freaking exciting set of games I’ve ever seen in a long time…
Thanks to Channel 10 for the broad cast. Its nice to watch all matches here.
listen mate, the lot of them are taking money!!!… herschelle gibbs took money for his weak innings yesterday against chennai superkings, now greame smith and others are doing the same against mumbai indians, i lived in south africa when hansie cronjie and herschelle gibbs made deals with the indians, do not take the piss out of me, this 20/20 is full of match fixing, for heavans sake just watch how easially they go out at crucial times, shame on all of you
Any one here about channel 9 getting the rights to all icc events, including champions trophey?
Thousands of controversy came in attack from the time this I>P>L has began, besides these issues people forget to realise that all lost faces but good cricketers again comes in picture through this tournament, I.P.L prove to be an life oppertunity to some of them and had given a chance to excersise their talent & skills so that their devotion towards crickit will remain alive………….forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Neerav, what do you think about comment #96
What do you think the cut-off points be to make the semi finals? I would say 18 with Rajasthan only needing 2 wins from 5 matches. Go the mighty Rajasthan Underdogs!
what sort of ratings is this ipl getting in australia?
Can anyone please explain me (or direct me to search in the internet) about the following latest technologies used in TV coverage of IPL matches.
i. “Speed of the Bat”: Definition and the way of measuring it. ii. “Distance of the Sixer”: Definition and the way of measuring it.
Yay im number 102
wooooooooooooooooooo
gooooooo Punjab and rajasthan
yay
lol
cmon
Nigel Rulz
is dis version of ipl getting more trp in aus den the test series??????????
Hey Chennai super kings made it to the semi finals..chennai is the place i live but i support the team that plays well…Rajasthan royals definitely deserve the top spot and Shane warne has been doing a great job as a captain…
i hear many people saying that warne would have been the best captain for australia too… probably true…but then did australia really loose out on warne’s captaincy abilities…no…during most of warne’s tenure in the aussie team, they were dominating the world….ofcourse Warne and Mcgrath were the leading aussie players to bring them to the No.1 position…
coming back to IPL, i still feel that mumbai indians would have been a better semifinalist than chennai superkings…not because of tendulkar but because of players like Jayasuriya and Pollock who have done really well to bring back their team into contention from early failures….they were definitely as unlucky as chennai super kings luckiness..
rajasthan royals seem to be the team that deserves to win the IPL…what do u say?
I see some discussions about the grounds being short…but then people you cannot expect bigger grounds in a country that is so densely populated and with badly planned cities, towns and villages…the situation is so bad that even if they find a tree on the street someone will try to cut it, sell it for money and probably would also advertise the space for sale in the Indian newspapers…and 9 out of 10 such guys would be related to a politician….the Indian politicians are ruining the country and inflation is badly hurting the country…
The country is finding it difficult to overcome the petrol price crisis while the politicians dominated BCCI is finding the money to sponsor cricketers for such big money….BCCI is getting richer making the innocent indian cricket lover poorer…
Can you aussies tell me what can be done when the country’s finance minister (PC) runs the ministry like a business with wealth optimisation being the objective (ofcourse the shareholders here are in the Indian politicians…that I think will be easy for you to guess)?
Probably he is so influenced by American democracy and he is finding it difficult to understand the difference between a government and a corporate setup ?
Ask yourself why sport was invented. Why do we play sport? For pure enjoyment and entertainment… So if the IPL is giving us good entertainment then I have nothing to worry about.
If you are on of the foreigners who think that India is wasting so much money on cricket, i’d have to half agree with you on that one. The rich buggers who are making more profit might find it in their puny hearts to donate SOME of the money that they get to charity. Also, cricket is almost India’s second religion, No offense but how much money do you people spend on Christianity? I know people are going to hate me for that comment and say, ‘How much do you spend on Hinduism?’. But the fact is… Life’s tough, deal with it if you don’t like it.
Thanks for reading this… Or skimming through this and people who are reading this sentence and haven’t read the rest read the whole thing before you comment on stuff… Reading doesn’t do any harm to you… But thats another story… By the way, buy a mac, they are so much easier to type with… I cant believe i wrote all this on one stupid comment… But any way… I’ll just shut up now…
I can’t wait to the final tonight. But the problem with the IPL is that you play all these minor round matches and then you come to the finals. You have 14 minor round matches but in Punjabs case, they played superbly for 14 matches but for 1 match they had an off day and it was tournament over. So what I am trying to say is that the semi-finals should be either at a home ground or say a best of 3 and 1 match for the final.
@suresh, Punjab was comprehensively beaten by chennai super kings…not once but thrice…it is not just one off day…CSK were dominating them in the tournament…
Rajasthan Royals won the tournament and they deserve the victory, though it was close…hmm…I knew that this team will do it…congrats to warne…and you should have seen him in the last over…he was as serious as though he was in the last over of an world cup final, playing for australia…
@d2a…i am also a cricket and sport lover…
I am not talking religion but only about how indian politicians are ruining the country by poking their into into everything…whether it be BCCI or cricket….BCCI is making money… but do you know, how much is it spent back on cricket or sports in general…and how much goes into the pockets of politicians? no wonder these politicians want to get into BCCI and manage its coffers…it is better you do that…
I am about to go to India and I have been asked to explain the impact of Australia’s involvement in the recent Indian Premier League? I am not really close enough to the IPL to know. Any ideas?
hello i was just wondering now with the ipl in south afirca what time will the matches be on tv in australia?
Anyone got an update for this years schedule or know where it is going to be played?
